STABAT MATER BY GIOVANNI BATTISTA PERGOLESI

As a young man, Pergolesi wrote his famous Stabat Mater in 1736, just a few weeks before his death, for a Neapolitan lay brotherhood.

The moving mood of the work, written in the then newly emerging galant style, soon caught the interest and great approval of audiences. Even Johann Sebastian Bach contributed a beautiful arrangement in his cantata “Tilge, Höchster, meine Sünden” (BWV 1083).

The Tiroler sopranos Vanessa Waldhart, currently engaged in Halle an der Saale, and the Wiltener countertenor Pascal Ladner, who is studying singing at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium in cooperation with the Musikuniversität Wien and the Mozarteum Salzburg, and has already excelled in several major oratorios, will be singing.

Participants:

Academia Jacobus Stainer Vanessa Waldhart, soprano Pascal Ladner, countertenor Johannes Stecher, conductor.
